Struggling to get back into your 9 to 5 work routine? In this blog, we share some important tips and reminders on how to get back into the swing of things and achieve those career goals.
Plan ahead
Planning ahead means you can start your year off stress-free and prepared for anything work may through at you. Even the small things like packing your bag the night before, or creating a to-do list for the week can drastically reduce stress levels and help keep you focused and productive.
Accept that you will be tired
If you’ve felt tired during these first couple of weeks back after Christmas, you’re not alone! Your body clock will take a while to adjust back into the 9 to 5 routine so it’s extra important that you’re getting enough sleep and moving your body during the day.
Embrace the post-Christmas slump
While your brain is still in the process of firing up again, it can be useful to tick off your admin tasks. For example, re-familiarising yourself with any systems/programmes that you may have gotten rusty with over the festive break. Tying up any loose ends from 2023 is also a good thing to do before you jump into any major new projects.
January spring-clean
Shred those meeting notes that have been piling up on your desk, get yourself a sparkly new notebook and reorganise your draws to start the new year decluttered. You know what they say, ‘tidy desk, tidy mind’!
Socialise
Catch up with your supportive colleagues over a coffee, plan a dinner with friends, schedule a Facetime with your siblings - brighten your January with good company!
Be kind to yourself
January can feel particularly taxing, especially if you’ve had time off over the festive period spent eating your body weight in cheese and re-watching the Harry Potter anthology. That’s why it’s so important to go easy on yourself, whether you stick to your New Year’s resolutions (that’s amazing, go you) or end up throwing them out the window because you need to rest (also amazing; you’re listening to your body). Celebrate the day-to-day wins and don’t beat yourself up if things don’t always go to plan. We’re all human and sometimes a trip to Hogwarts after work is the only remedy for happiness…
Set some realistic work goals
Keep yourself motivated by setting goals for the year ahead that are attainable and make a plan for how you will achieve them.
