We asked our Senior Consultants to tell us the top quantity surveying certifications that they look out for on candidate CVs, from both intermediate levels to chartered level. This is a professional training course, which gives you the practical knowledge you need to succeed in your quantity surveying career. It covers both pre and post-contract processes, the commercial management of construction and concepts on various procurement options; the production of tender documents; the contractor's tendering procedure and strategy; and the detailed process undertaken by the contractor to price tender documents.


These memberships will help to build your expertise and develop your insight through access to a range of courses, conferences, and events. They also enhance your career opportunities and earning potential by the titles being globally recognised, which increases your employability. Build a global professional network by connecting with your peer members across the work and leading figures within the industry. This is an option to become a qualified member if you have work-based experience, this includes:

  • 1 year of relevant experience and a relevant bachelor’s degree

  • 2 years of relevant experience and a relevant higher/advanced/foundation qualification

  • 4 years of relevant experience (no qualifications required)


A Chartered Membership is available on completion of the chartered qualification. You are able to enrol at any time in your career but are required to meet one of the following before applying for the assessment:

  • Relevant experience and an RICS-accredited degree

  • 5 years of relevant experience and any bachelor’s degree

  • 10 years of relevant experience operating at an advanced level by seniority, specialisation, or in academia


The most common way of qualifying as a Chartered Member is through the Assessment of Professional Competence (APC), however you could also qualify as an industry specialist, academic and senior professional.
