Having great industry certifications on your CV can help you stand out to the employers on your radar. Want to spruce up your CV to get yourself noticed by key hiring managers? We asked our Senior Consultant, Chris, what certifications he looks out for on candidate CVs when recruiting for commercial fit-out roles:
This is a course designed for individuals who are considering or already have responsibilities in planning, organising, monitoring, controlling, and administering groups of staff. It covers relevant legislation affecting safe working and highlights the need for risk assessments. The certification is valid for 5 years and you can take a refresher course after this period to keep the certification. Having this certification shows employers that you are able to efficiently and correctly implement all legislation, guidance and industry best practice that affects your day-to-day work, as well as understand your duties and responsibilities with regards to health, safety, welfare & environment.
The Construction Industry Scaffolders Record Scheme provides a scaffolding awareness course that covers the potential dangers of working on scaffolds and insight into the best possible scaffolding practice. This certification is key in showing hiring managers you have taken the initiative to embark on a further understanding of best practices in the workplace, this is especially vital for those looking to move into a Project Management position.
To become a member, you must have completed either a Professional Review (PR), Professional Development Programme (PDP) or the Chartered Membership Programme (CMP). The Charted Institute of Building (CIOB) is the most influential professional body for construction management and leadership and is comparable to a bachelor’s Degree. Your dedication to the industry and your capabilities will be internationally recognised with this membership.
To apply for the CSCS Black Card you must be a manager or working within technical occupations and have passed the CITB Managers and Professionals Health, Safety and Environment Test. You must also have an achievement of a relevant Construction Management/Technical related NVQ/SVQ level 5, 6 or 7, a SVQ Level 4 in Construction Management/Technical related qualification or holding a pre-existing NVQ level 4 in construction management. The card is valid for 5 years and is a quick and easy way to show hiring managers that you have passed an array of important tests.
