Did you know that women only make up 16% of the construction industry in 2023?
To help level this gender imbalance, the Home Builders Federation (HBF) has partnered with Women into Construction to launch a new employment programme focused on bringing more women into the sector.
Those who join the employment programme will receive funding to help them afford childcare and necessary training.
The nationwide project will run over the course of 4 weeks and offers the following opportunities:
Back-to-back development sessions, online lessons and Q&A sessions with industry leaders, employers and site managers
Site visits, including on-site and virtual
Insight into the life of a site-manager
One-to-one support and guidance from Women in Construction
Introductory session on health and safety in construction
Women into Construction's Business Development Director, Jacqui Wordsworth, says: “With women representing just 4% of site managers, we want to inspire and encourage more women to take up a career in home building – helping us and our employer partners to change the face of construction.”
Jenny Herdman, director for HBF’s Home Building Skills Partnership emphasises the importance of attracting a “broad range of entrants into the industry” to help address staffing shortages in the home building sector.
“HBF is delighted to be working with Women into Construction to increase the number of female site managers in the industry and show that there are opportunities for people of all backgrounds and talents to develop a rewarding career in home building.”
Registration is open now until 13 February, 5pm. Those interested in applying are encouraged to attend the online information session on Tuesday, 31 January, where you will have the opportunity to meet and impress managers from across the UK.
