Navigating your next resignation

Is it time to close the chapter on your current job? Nervous to deliver the news? In this blog, we share three simple steps to help you navigate the resignation process seamlessly and successfully…

  1. Book some time with your boss

When you’ve decided to move onto pastures new, it is best practice to let your boss know before anyone else. Find a time in their calendar when they’re not run off their feet to tell them the news face-to-face. The best move is to be honest; discuss why you’re moving, what this job will mean for your career growth and show your gratitude for their management and opportunities you’ve received during your time at the company.

  1. Follow-up with a resignation letter

Send a formal email to confirm your resignation. This needs to include:

  • Your decision to resign

  • Confirmation of notice period and the final day you will be working

  • Show gratitude to your team and management

  • Vague explanation as to your decision

  • Outline the handover process and how you will help

  1. Casual goodbye email

This isn’t a requirement but it is always polite to inform the company of your departure via a short (and sweet) email. Mention how much you’ve enjoyed working with everyone and how much they’ll be missed (even if you have to exaggerate the truth a little…). You can send this a week before you leave and perhaps invite everyone for farewell drinks or food if you fancy!
