In this blog, we offer top tips to share with your team when it comes to improving their safety onsite.
Report broken equipment / hazards
Occasionally, there will be issues onsite such as incorrectly constructed fences, or faulty equipment. However, it is important workers avoid tampering with anything unless they are qualified to do so. Advise your team to report anything that doesn’t look right immediately to their supervisor.
PPE is a must
Not only does PPE ensure you are seen, but also helps keep you safe from any accidents if they do occur. Remind your team of the potential dangers on-site and why PPE, such as hard hats, boots and hi-vis dramatically reduce the chances of serious injury.
Communicate, communicate, communicate…
All parties, from the architect, to the project manager, to the contractors, need to have a clear line of conversation in order for the construction project to be completed seamlessly and successfully. If there is no contact between those onsite and those in the office, you can expect major delays and a lot of friction…
Signs are there for a reason
Get your team to keep an eye out for safety signs around the building site - they are there to keep everyone out of harm's way and shouldn’t be ignored.
Be aware of your surroundings
Did you know that the majority of accidents that happen on construction sites are caused as a result of people working in unsafe areas? For example, workers have fallen because they have been at a height without the suitable guard rails, or been hit by something collapsing. Make sure your colleagues are conscious of their work environment and how to judge the safety of an area before entering.
Remind your team that they should always reach out to their supervisor if they encounter any issues.
