Qualifications required
Employers look for town planners to have a RTPI accredited planning qualification, either at undergraduate or postgraduate level. The Royal Town Planning Institute represents the gold standard for planning courses and is a leading membership organisation recognised by employers. Find a course that suits you here.

Salary
At entry level, you can expect to earn between 20-35k. Senior town planners will be looking at 45k in most instances. Of course, this depends on your experience, location and employer.
Work experience
Employers will look for candidates with work experience within the construction industry. It also gives you the chance to figure out which area of planning you would most like to work in.
