The release of the official findings from the second stage of the Grenfell Inquiry is facing additional delays, despite hopes that it would be published this autumn.
A statement from the project team investigating the systemic and industry shortcomings related to the 2017 tower-block fire in west London, which resulted in the loss of 72 lives, has indicated that the report will not be feasible for release before April 2024.
The production of the report has been described as “time-consuming”, due partly to the need for analysing responses, and determining whether adjustments to the conclusions or their expression by the inquiry chair, Sir Martin Moore-Bick, are necessary.
Warning letters have been sent to those criticised in the document, which focuses heavily on failings across the construction industry, as well as the role of the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea in the tragedy.
The Grenfell Tower public inquiry said in a statement on Friday: “As things stand, the report will not be published before April next year but the [inquiry] panel hopes to be able to send it to the prime minister before the next anniversary of the fire with publication soon thereafter.”
