3 ways to show your support this Black History Month

Black History Month is a time to celebrate and recognise the contributions black people have made to our society. In this blog, we share three meaningful ways to show your support this Black History Month.

1. Re-evaluate your hiring process

Help reduce bias in recruitment by re-evaluating your hiring process this Black History Month. But what does this actually look like? For starters, you should actively promote the fact that your company champions diversity and is an equal opportunities employer. Job descriptions should also use inclusive language, including gender-neutral descriptions and omitting any unnecessary jargon etc. Applications should be stripped of personal details about the candidate (such as age, name and gender) as to reduce the risk of unconscious bias.

2. Donate to charity

Get the team together and raise money for a black charity of your choice to show your support for race equality! This could be as simple as a pizza day at the office where everyone donates in return for a slice, or you could go all out and get your team to sign up for a half marathon or host a company sports day. However you choose to raise money, here’s a few ideas as to where you can donate it:

3. Take part in the 5 Day Challenge

A big part of actively taking part in Black History Month is educating yourself on racism, white privilege and everything in between. A good place to start is by encouraging colleagues to get involved with the 5 Day Challenge. Each activity takes just five minutes to complete so it’s super easy to fit into the working day.
