We’ve seen how artificial intelligence is revolutionising the construction sector, but how can it help boost your career growth? Carry on reading for three AI hacks you probably haven’t considered…
Improve your CV
That’s right, ChatGPT can edit your CV. Here’s how to do it; straight from the horse’s mouth!
‘Please provide me with the content of your CV, and let me know what specific areas you'd like assistance with. Common areas for improvement include formatting, wording, organization, and highlighting your skills and experiences. If you have any specific job positions in mind that you're applying for, that information would also be helpful so I can tailor the CV to those roles.’
Remember, the more specific you are with your instructions, the better the results from ChatGPT will be. If you’re not happy with the first draft, you can always edit your CV further by providing the chatbot with prompts. For example, “Please can you add more detail to my skills and hobbies section?” or “Can you give me suggestions to improve my personal statement?”.
We also recommend proofreading your CV before sending it off, because as good as AI is at writing, sometimes it can sound a little…well, robotic. We don’t want you scaring off recruiters with a lack of passion, do we?
2. Practice interview questions
If having an editorial expert for your CV wasn’t enough, ChatGPT can also help you prepare for your next job interview. Here are the instructions it gave us:
“To get started, could you please provide more details about the type of interview you're preparing for, the job role or industry it's related to, and any specific areas you'd like to focus on? This will help me tailor the practice session to your needs and provide you with relevant advice and simulated interview scenarios.”
Once you feed it the information above, it will start sending you a series of example questions that may come up in the interview. The software will also explain how to answer different styles of question e.g. the difference between a situational question vs a role-specific question.
This is a fantastic activity to do ahead of the big day as it will allow you to think in more depth about the importance of structuring your answers, as well as the topics likely to arise that perhaps you hadn’t previously considered.
Now, let’s not give ChatGPT all the credit - Prepper is also another incredible platform to practice interview questions with. It will even give you feedback on your answers and even provide company-specific questions.
3. Writing to hiring managers and recruiters
Sometimes, reaching out directly to the hiring manager or recruiter promoting your dream role is the most effective way to get noticed. Not only does this put your name on the map, but also helps you build rapport with your potential employer so even if you don’t land the job, they’ll know who to call for the next similar role that comes along. Again, you can use AI to help you craft that all-important message. The same rules apply: be specific about your experience and the role requirements - at the very least ChatGPT can provide you with a useful starting point from which to structure your Linkedin DM.
